_______
Driving growth through HR strategy
THE CLIENT
Gingko People were approached by an SME in Central London, with 7 employees and several external contractors. The company operates within the digital space and was seeking growth to meet ambitious objectives.
WHAT THEY NEEDED
The SME had no HR department internally and no external HR support, so approached us to assist as they entered a growth stage of their business plan. The emphasis was on ensuring appropriate HR frameworks were in place for all existing and future staff, whilst not restricting the open and flexible culture that was flourishing in the organisation.
WHAT WE DID
Our first step with all clients is to discover the DNA of the business: goals, aspirations, issues - what makes the company tick. Particularly in a small company, it’s important for us to understand the existing culture and the personalities of those contributing to making the business what it is, before developing solutions.
After working with the business owner to get to know the business, it became clear that the first step was getting ‘buy-in’ from all employees, ensuring that everyone was on the same page moving forwards. We needed to communicate creatively and effectively with the people to emphasise that the HR function is valuable, not an extra layer of bureaucracy to tolerate.
Developing a partnership with the business owner to become a trusted advisor, as opposed to merely an external supplier, was crucial to the effectiveness of our approach.
OUR SUCCESSES
After implementing our action plan and developing strong relationships with all stakeholders, the business is compliant with employment law, employee relations are positive, and everyone is working towards the same goals. The vision of the business is clear and is communicated to all staff, present and future, to ensure collaboration and commitment across the business.
Our relationship with the business owner is ongoing - we’re here to support when needed and have become a trusted source of support for the owner and staff alike. Most importantly, we’ve helped to lay the foundations for growth. The owner has ambitious plans and is now confident to implement them, without team performance fears or concerns about skills gaps. The business is now set up for success.
